News Update including Korova Corporation

Hi everyone,

Sorry it has been so long since the last post- very busy times!

Quick news update is that we continue to move forward with our push for local companies and food by introducing new lines from Wapping Beers brewed from underneath the Baltic Fleet Pub on the Dock Road, Liverpool. Further new lines expected shortly.

In other exciting news Merseyfoods are now supplying the Korova Corporation group of restaurants which include the likes of Circo, Geisha, Babycream, Negressgo and Casa Del Cocodrillo with Marmalades and Chutneys etc.

We are hoping to find new restaurants in the future who may like to take our products so watch this space for further news.

Thanks Andy

New Supplier- Sugar & Spice, Woolton

Hi everyone,- just to let you know that we can announce another new supplier: Sugar & Spice, Woolton.

Some testing products are already avaliable, but by the end of the week the following products will all be up and running on the site:

Roast Tomato Chutney

The sweetness of roast tomatoes combines with the gentle heat of ginger and a pinch of cayenne. Perfect for those who like it mellow, it goes very well with a sharp cheddar or roast ham.

Nectarine & Onion Relish

Sticky caramelised onions with nectarines, rosemary, lemon, fennel and cumin. Amazing with sausages, it’s excellent with cheese.

Spiced Plum Chutney

Softly spiced with cinnamon, this is particularly good with blue cheeses or cold roast chicken.

Pear & Date Relish

Very Moorish! Cumin, red onion, carrot and the sweet pears mix with the almost toffee dates to produce something special.

Spicy Apple Chutney

Hotter than you might think, this is really scrummy. Goes with everything but is particularly good with Cornish pasties.

Orange & Cointreau Marmalade

A generous slug of Cointreau lifts this marmalade above the average. Great for Sundays!

Pink Grapefruit & Ginger Marmalade

For ginger fans! Sweet and hot but deliciously tangy.

Raspberry & Peach Jam

Intense fresh raspberry with the softness of peach. Not too sweet but very fruity. Try on warm brioche with unsalted butter.

Very Berry

A real taste of summer. Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries with a hint of lemon. Recommended on toast to make your morning special!

Plum & Mulled Wine Jam

A winter warmer that’s popular all year round! Try with clotted cream and a scone for a delicious teatime treat.

We hope you will enjoy the new product ranges, these will increase further over the coming month.

Sugar & Spice Woolton can also be found at the Woolton Farmers Market on the 2nd Saturday of the month, and at the Lark Lane Farmers Market on the 4th Saturday in the month.

Regards

Andy

Suppliers

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know where we are up to with the new business.

As it stands we are now at the stage of looking and selecting a small number of regular suppliers who will stock the food and drink we believe is representational of Merseyside. We are pleased to announce Bartons of St Helens and Kershawseafoods of Southport as the first two and over the next week and hope to announce more. Our ambition is to have ten or so popular lead local producers helping us retail local food and drink to the public.

Our mailing list is up so if you havent already please sign up so we can send you details of the new lines, these will be the main focus of the coming months.

Regards to all.

The Merseyside Food Network

Following our confirmation on the http://freerangereview.co.uk website we are now also members of The Merseyside Food Network.

The Merseyside Food Network

The Merseyside Food Network is a collaborative group of food companies working together to build markets, reduce operating costs and maximise profits. The Network is run by The Network Company in conjunction with the Northwest Food Alliance and details of both these organisations are incorporated below.

The Network Company

The Network Company has been organising and brokering self-help networks of food manufacturing and related companies in the North West for around 9 years.

The very first collaborative group was started in Wigan in 1998 with the aim of helping member businesses develop strategies and actions to maximise and safeguard their profitability. That Network is still operating successfully and the objective is still as relevant today. In fact the current membership is very much the same as in 1998 and clearly the participating businesses still believe that they are getting bottom line benefits.

The operation and support has now spread to cover Manchester and Merseyside and includes Lancashire and South Cumbria.

In support of the overarching objective of helping to increase profits the Networks address two main strategies:

  1. developing new markets and increasing trade
  2. reducing operating costs

The Northwest Food Alliance

The Northwest Development Agency identified the Agri-Food and Drink Sector as one of the key sectors for Economic growth in the region.

At the Food Alliance we aim to create wealth, jobs and opportunities through innovation and collaboration, working with the supply chain and manufacturing and building the image of the industry.

Bringing the industry together to drive regeneration strategy and spending is a highly innovative approach, and can have a big impact because the regional food sector has an annual turnover of £9.5bn and includes around 19,000 companies. It is the largest manufacturing sector of its kind in England and covers the whole of the food chain, employing 95,000 in manufacturing and primary agriculture and 270,000 people in total.

The Food Alliance has widespread positive support from Government departments, the NWDA, delivery partners such as Universities, Business Links, UK Trade & Investment and the Food and Drink Federation.
